British Food Fortnight is a celebration of the diverse, wonderful and delicious food that Britain produces.
Here at Northern Pasta we are huge advocates of buying British.
I wanted to share with you our thoughts on Why We Should Buy British? and how we can make steps to introducing more British crafted food & drink into our shopping baskets.
Why British?
Knowing where your food comes from. Buying British means a more traceable link from consumer to farmer/producer/artisan. We can connect directly with the farmer, the miller, (the pasta makers). We have a greater understanding of how our food is made and what ingredients are used to make it. This knowledge empowers us as it give us the ability to make choices.
Supporting local. Local can mean our town, your county or country. It means supporting your communities, the people within them. More money is kept within these communities, so the local businesses can use them to in turn buy locally from their farmers, suppliers, providers.
Keeping the food miles down. Produce isn’t imported from overseas which means we can and you can keep your carbon footprint down.
For us, choosing British grown grains means we can proactively choose to buy high quality, british grown grains, we can choose to support biodiversity, regenerative farming and we can go and visit exactly where these grains are grown. Witnessing our pasta at the very beginning of its journey to you our fabulous pasta eaters.
Not only will you be devouring the most delicious pasta ever, but when you enjoy Northern Pasta you will be supporting a community of British farmers, millers, pasta makers, as well as British farm shops, delis, bakeries, wherever you get your pasta. You become part of a British pasta community.
